Founded in 1991 by Jay Walker (who developed Priceline.com) and Michael Loeb, NewSub Magazine Services LLC began by marketing magazine subscriptions through credit card companies.  In 1996, the company introduced an innovative continuous service system for customers to renewi their subscriptions automatically without any interruption.  Over the years, NewSub Services expanded its sales channels to include retailers, catalogers, airlines, and internet companies.

In the year 2000, the company changed its name to Synapse Group, Inc. to better represent its growing business.

NewSub/Synapse has grown to be the largest magazine subscription marketer in the U.S., providing customers with access to over 700 titles from all of the major publishers—including Hearst, Condé Nast, and more.
